The British Association of Singapore is a not-for-profit organisation which is open to all nationalities from around the world.
The BA provides a warm welcome for newcomers to Singapore as well as offering a wide variety of recreational activities in various locations throughout Singapore.
We raise funds to support local charities and offer volunteering opportunities within the community.
The British Association has a long and auspicious history.
Founded in 1956 as the British European Association, it was formed to look after the welfare and finances of British people living in Singapore as Singapore moved towards independence.
It was also instrumental in starting schools and hospitals such as Gleneagles, Tanglin Trust School and United World College as well as The British Club and providing housing for the elderly.
The Association is run on a voluntary basis, and today provides many different activities and events for members, as well as supporting local charities both financially and with practical support.
The BA is run by an elected Committee or “Council” of volunteers, for which any member can stand, this is led by an elected Chairperson.
Details of Council members can be found in The BEAM magazine and on the website.
The BA traditionally invites the British High Commissioner and their spouse to be its Patrons.
The BA enjoys a good relationship with the High Commission and are regularly invited to hold events at Eden Hall, the High Commissioner’s official Residence on Nassim Road.
Recently these have included Christmas Carols at Eden Hall, the AGM, the Volunteers’ Tea.
Look out for the occasional BA tour of the house and gardens followed by morning coffee in the drawing room too.
Join the BA and enjoy The BEAM (the bi-monthly magazine), discounts with your BA card, BA tours, social activities, handicrafts, and sports.
