National Safety Council of Singapore

The National Safety Council of Singapore (NSCS) was first known as The National Safety First Council of Singapore when it was inaugurated on 1st July 1966 by Dr. Goh Keng Swee who was then our Minister for Defence. Initially our focus was on road safety to bring road safety awareness to the public. Gradually, NSCS explored several other aspects of safety including occupational health and safety, home safety and even child safety.

The National Safety Council of Singapore (NSCS) is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) with the objective of promoting safety in all areas of life in Singapore including safety at work, safety on the roads, safety in the home and safety in recreational activities and sports and the community in general.

The NSCS is duly registered as a society with the Registry of Societies (ROS) and is a Full Member of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). The NSCS is also a Founding Member of the Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organization (APOSHO) which comprises 40 NGOs from 23 countries in the region.

NSCS works to safe lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the roads through leadership, research, education and advocacy. The areas NSCS focuses on include: Workplace Safety, Home Safety, Transport Safety, Water Safety, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety and Safety for the Community

• To collaborate with all stakeholders in raising awareness and educating members of the community and public at large on the importance of safety in daily lives
• To share information and best practices in the areas of safety in general
• To convene or participate in seminars, conferences, forums, etc. or stakeholder meetings; to help forge innovative safe solutions and provide inputs on safety issues.
