Since its formation in 1947, the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (or SATA) has established itself as a leading organisation for combating tuberculosis (TB) during the post-war years. Led by a founding team of doctors and businessmen/philanthropists, SATA focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TB as well as the promotion of TB awareness in Singapore during the 1940s and 50s when TB was rampant and posed a national health threat.

As the incidence of TB began falling from the 1960s, SATA extended its outpatient service to treat heart diseases and was renamed from Royal Singapore Tuberculosis Clinic to SATA Heart and Chest Clinic to reflect its expanded role. SATA remained active in promoting healthy hearts and lungs by advocating a smoke-free lifestyle through the 1970s and 80s. At the same time it also became a leading provider of statutory health screening (ie. for pre-employment and pre-enrolment) and primary healthcare services.

SATA renamed and rebranded itself in 2009 to SATA CommHealth to reflect its interest and focus on community healthcare.

SATA Commhealth extends lifelong healthcare in the community, through preventive and primary care via its medical centres as well as mobile services for those who are vulnerable. For the disadvantaged elderly, we provide home care services and integrated social and healthcare, so they can age in place and with dignity.

Currently, around 200,000 consumers are serviced by its eight medical centres in the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay, Jurong, Potong Pasir, Tanjong Pagar, Tampines and Woodlands, Community Health Centre in Jurong East for eye and diabetic foot screening as well as our mobile services that consist of Mobile X-ray units, Mammo-On-Wheels (mobile mammography service) and Doctor-On-Wheels. A Community Hub, located at Fernvale, is launched to serve the elderly living in rental flats in the vicinity through talks and healthy lifestyle activities.

SATA CommHealth continues to expand its scope of services to meet the healthcare needs of the community in line with its mission of ‘Promoting lifelong health, serving the community’.
