WHO Experts warn repeating Covid-19 Boosters not a viable approach on Tuesday 11th January, World Health Organization. The necessity of 3rd and 4th fourth vaccine doses has been a growing issue in the outbreak of the omicron variant.
Early evidence suggested that initial Covid booster shots provided substantial protection from Covid-19 over the primary vaccine series. Although breakthrough infections remain possible, the vaccines are highly protective against severe illness and death.
In Israel, over a quarter of million people have received a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine as of 9th Jan Sunday morning, said the Israeli Health Ministry.
Joining Israel yesterday 10th Jan in administering 4th doses was Chile – which offered the booster doses to higher-risk members of its population.
U.K. government officials recommended against fourth vaccine doses to elderly in nursing home and people over 80, because data shows that a 3rd shot offers lasting protection against hospitaliztion.
“So people receive vaccinations every year to protect themselves against it without many problems, or the need for disruptive border closures and social restrictions each time there’s an influenza infection wave.It is a possible future scenario when we live with COVID-19 as an endemic disease.”
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, in Parliament on Monday 10th January, suggested that yearly booster shots may be a scenario in Singapore
